He encounters the Tharkian tribe during this time that are the green Martians.
They have four arms and are fifteen-foot creatures, who live by the code of kill or be killed. If they survive they can live up to a thousand years and the only time when they smile or laugh is the time when they see their enemies suffering. Soon John beats all of his opponents due to his increased strength and knowledge he got during his service in the war.
Later, because of him there is an alliance between the Red Martians and the green men for the first time in history. He teaches kindness and morals to those people and sends a message that there is still hope during dark times. It was published in the year and depicts the return of John Carter to Mars after 10 years of absence. The method of transportation as described in this novel is not the same as described in the previous one.
